Despite the fact that Russia is the biggest country in the world, there have been no agarwood trees discovered within its borders.
However, there is an agarwood distiller by the name of Russian Adam, who infuses his pure oud oils with that bold Russian character. Russian Oud is a perfume that was created by Russian Adam using one such oil.
Traditionally distilled Thai oud displays its wild, raw, deep nature right from the start of this composition. At the top, it reveals
caramelized oudiness, a note that, upon entering the nostrils, seems to reach the deepest brain cells, causing them to vibrate in complete olfactory euphoria. This sensation appeals to those individuals familiar with authentic, high quality oud. Just as with any deeply psychoactive substance, oud requires patience, experience and appropriate treatment.
As soon as the scent travels towards the heart notes, one stands face to face with Russian musks. Castoreum delivers a dirty leather aroma, while the fragrance of deer musk pod adds to it an animalic shadow, as well as lending another layer of furry leather accord. This is all sweetened by rich cocoa extract from Indonesia and chocolaty Indian oud.
From oud and musk, the composition advances toward the base notes, where it conveys an atmosphere of incense-laden relaxation. The unique scent of guggul resin dominates the thick base with incensy, balsamic, honeyed sweetness. Birch tar and Sandal 100K, distilled by Russian Adam, adds a touch of creamy smoke. A balanced combination of cedarwood, myrrh and labdanum wrap it all in a soft woody, ambery scent that lasts for hours, warming the wearer.
Russian Oud is a grandfather of our previous sought-after compositions, Oud Zen and Oud Picante. It is richer in oud, resins and
soothing, incensy base notes. It is a perfect perfume for oud lovers; but it will also be enjoyed by those not familiar with agarwood, due to its addictive, oudy, versatile character.
This Olfactory Composition contains animal product… a maceration derived from legally obtained, wild Siberian deer musk pods. These were sourced from a legal institution that buys only from registered hunters who have permission from the Russian government to hunt a regulated number of wild deer per season. Legal musk grains are available in very limited amounts and are typically used only for traditional medicines. This is one of the reasons why natural musk grains are no longer used in large scale perfumery.
